Wedding Downtime
It may feel like you’re in the middle of a whirlwind but it’s really important to give yourselves some downtime on your wedding day to really appreciate all that’s going on around you and just spend some time as a couple. Many wedding schedules are back to back, from preparation to ceremony to reception with not a moment in between to reflect and relax.
There are plenty of areas where a little extra time can be added into your day, and it can make a real difference to take this time and savor it – before you know it your day will be over! Here are a few ideas to add some ‘downtime’ into your wedding day:
Pre-wedding – Give yourselves an extra hour or two to get ready before the ceremony. This will give you time to spend with your Bridesmaids, your family and not be in a horrible rush to get to the church on time! It’s very easy to get snappy and short tempered when you have a schedule to keep, so allowing yourself a little extra time to get everything done can work wonders on your mood.
Between the ceremony and reception – Allow for plenty of travel time if they are in separate venues, and provide some ‘mingling’ snacks and drinks for your guests when they arrive. Then you can factor in a little time just for you and your partner to disappear for a while and have an: “oh my goodness we just got married!” moment together. Your guests won’t mind – they’ll be happy chatting and gossiping about how gorgeous you look in your wedding dress…
Photos – No matter how many photos you have taken, you’ll always think “oh I wish I’d had one of x and y” after the event! Make sure you get all your family and friends involved and have some special photographic moments with them all. It’s not all about the bridal party – ask your photographer for ideas on how to get everyone involved and your photos will reflect the fact that you’re all having a great time.
After/during the meal – Many brides and grooms are opting for an alternative top table idea – a table for two! This gives you time as a couple to have a more intimate dining experience and reflect on your day so far. And if you’re having more of a traditional seating plan, then why not pencil in some time after the meal/before the speeches for you and your partner to have a few moments alone?
First dance – The first dance is becoming less popular these days, but we think it’s a great opportunity for some closeness and a way to have a quiet moment with your partner after the main wedding events are over. It also gives you the Chance to show off your Beautiful Wedding Dress.
Your wedding night! – There are no rules to say the bride and groom can’t slip off early while the party is in full swing. Chances are all the adrenaline and excitement has exhausted you anyway and you might be glad of an early night, whatever you get up to! You’re provided your guests with entertainment, food, drink and a great time, so don’t feel guilty if you want to reserve some time for you as a couple in the evening.
Wedding days are over all too quickly so make the most of yours and work out some ‘downtime’ in between all the madness and Beautiful fun!
